About TheatreSouth

We’re a black-owned grassroots theatre company dedicated to changing lives, advocating for human rights, and providing world-class theatre at an affordable price to underserved communities.

WE SUPPORT BLACK LIVES MATTER AND THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY BECAUSE WE DON’T BUY INTO THE NOTION THAT EQUALITY AND HAPPINESS ARE RESERVED ONLY FOR THOSE WHO FIT THE STATUS QUO.

A flagship feature of our work is using the theatre as a platform for black voices, stories, experiences, and ideologies to hold a prominent position in the arts and culture realm of American society. We believe in the importance of pushing the agenda of racial equality and justice for all U.S. citizens of color. We advocate for those who are marginalized because of their gender identity, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socioeconomic background.

We produce theatre projects that foster community engagement by creating residences in the communities we tour, giving amateur performers the opportunity to share the stage with professionals. We are adamant about giving people from all walks of life an opportunity to perform on stage and grow artistically.

Through our plays, we expose people to the life and times of history’s most influential leaders, changemakers, and entertainers such as Madam CJ Walker, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Fannie Lou Hamer, Coretta Scott King, Dr. Maya Angelou, and others.
